Introducing Wren, our new Head of Design
A new year has brought with it a new team member, Wren Loucks, who has taken up the role of Head of Design. Wren took a few minutes out of her day to tell us a little bit more about herself…
What’s your background and how did you find out about Motionspot?
My background is in luxury interior design and mental health advocacy. I have designed some of the most exclusive places around the globe – from concept design, to spatial planning, bespoke furniture and lighting design, joinery, etc. I have also been involved in mental health advocacy which primarily involved creating more opportunities for experiential knowledge to inform policies and anti-stigma campaigns. I found out about Motionspot while looking for opportunities to combine my passion for design with health advocacy.
What are you most looking forward to about the role?
Design is a powerful tool — it can alter the way we live our lives. I’m most excited about creating positive impact through design and helping create a more inclusive world.
What qualities do you think you will bring to the Motionspot team?
I have been described as creative, forward-thinking and driven. I hope to bring this energy to the Motionspot team as well as my passion for collaboration. The team at Motionspot is quite diverse with many different talents and I’m excited to tap into everyone’s skills to create projects with impact.
Why do you think Motionspot’s work is so important?
Motionspot’s work positively affects people’s lives. They place the client at the centre of their service offering and design with empathy, experiential knowledge and leading re-search in the field. They also push the boundaries of what is typically considered ‘accessible design’– challenging the publics perceptions of what this looks like by designing spaces that are not only functional but also beautiful.
What do you think 2020 holds for the world of accessibility?
Motionspot have many exciting projects in the pipeline for 2020. The Brooklyn Hotel, which we worked on, just opened in Manchester, which has the first accessible suite and ceiling hoist. This will undoubtedly inspire other hotels to take note and inspire positive change.
When you’re not at Motionspot, what do you enjoy doing?
I have many interests. I am currently embarking on a part-time MBA at UCL which is very inspiring. I also love film, art (especially the Tate!) and travelling.
